Survey Results
In 1994, a set of survey questions
were designed collaboratively by us, the Appalachian
Mountain
Club
(AMC), and the
Appalachian Trail Conference (ATC). These survey questions
were repeated in 2003,
and 2004 (without AMC or ATC involvement) with additional
questions added to the end of the survey. The 2003
and 2004 surveys were performed on
hikers only.
The original 1994
survey results showed that 75 percent of snowmobilers,
80
percent of hunters, 84 percent of local residents,
and 85
percent of skiers were supportive or neutral regarding
the project. The 2003 and 2004 hiker survey results
showed that 77% of hikers were supportive or neutral
of the project.
Other Wind Farms
Interestingly,
public approval consistently increases after
wind farms are installed. See our Existing
Wind Farms Support page for more details about
public support for wind farm construction.
